Paris is the capital city of France. It is situated on the River Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region (aka "Paris Region"; in French: Région Parisienne or RP). The City of Paris has an estimated population of 2,167,994 within its administrative limits (January 2006).
The Paris unité urbaine (or urban area) extends well beyond the administrative city limits and has an estimated population of 9.93 million (in 2005), while the Paris aire urbaine (or metropolitan area) has a population of nearly 12 million and is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe.
The Seine is a major river of north-western France, and one of its commercial waterways. It is also a tourist attraction, particularly within the city of Paris.
Paris is another city to which I have a great affinity, probably because I spent three years living near here in my mid teenage time and have visited the city on more than just a few occasions since.
I have tried to show the main points of interest in Paris as well as give an overall account of the country, its people and its culture.
I really love France and have some wonderful memories of my time there. Hopefully you'll enjoy what is in this partition as much as I have enjoyed putting the photos on the website
