Every summer (except 2020 &2021 due Covid) Parksville hosts the annual Sandcastle competition. The competitors come from all over (Europe,the U.S., etc) and take the opening weekend to finish their entry. They use a special blend of sand and a touch of biodegradable stiffener to keep the statues from drying out and crumbling. The “offerings” are on view to everyoneand in the last part of August the Parks dept bulldoze the castles flat and they are gone forever - or until next year, same time.
The park was teeming with people, the arts & Craft people were out in droves and selling was good according to one artisan I spoke with. The weather held at around 22 C / 75 F and sky clear. It was a great afternoon on the “wet coast”
