Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines designed a new and larger ship for entry into the cruise market in the fall of 2009.
The "Oasis of the Seas" has been in research and development for quite a long time and the actual construction took well over a year.
Here is the original concept (artists conception) - followed by the construction of the ship and the end result ... the Oasis, that is sailing now (winter of 2009-2010) on the Caribbean market.
The ship will likely be restricted to this market, or other areas of the Atlantic as it is too large for the present day Panama Canal.
